On Tuesday national qualifiers from the Javelinas Track & Field team will head to the NCAA National Championships hosted by Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock, CA. The three day meet will begin on the May 26th and run through May 28th.
High Jumper Sam Alvarez serves as the sole female competitor from the Javelinas, while Tim Price, Sergio Rios (400-meter hurdles), Tommy Singletary (4x100-meter relay), Anthony Washington (4x100-meter relay), and Jonathan Woodson (200 and 4x100-meter relay) will represent the men. This is the second trip to the national meet for Rios, Singletary and Woodson.
Alvarez, who will be making her first trip, is looking forward to getting the opportunity to compete against the best the nation has to offer.
"Thoughts of being an All-American do linger every once in a while, and the dream is there it is just my job to go and catch it," she said.

A year ago this week, Kati Holly was preparing to walk across the stage as a graduate of Monahans High School.
Twelve months later, she will find herself competing in nationals for the second time during her freshman year at Angelo State University.
The high jumper already qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Albuquerque earlier this year, and now has qualified for this week's Outdoor Championships as well.
Despite competing in her first season as a collegian, Holly's early success doesn't surprise ASU head coach James Reid.
"The reason we recruited her because she was a winner," Reid said. "With the marks she was hitting in high school, it was a very safe assumption that she would be at the national championship, based on what it typically takes to get into the meet."

Nick Smith is ready to see how his speed stacks up against the best in the country.
The Angelo State University junior qualified for the NCAA Division II national track and field meet in the two fastest events — the 100- and 200-meter dashes
Smith qualified as an individual last year as well, but a hip flexor injury forced him to concentrate solely on the sprint relay, which he helped take sixth place to earn All-American honors.
This year, Smith has no such injuries heading into the national meet May 26 to 28 on the campus of California State University-Stanislaus.
"I'm real excited," said Smith, who attended high school in Rowlett, a suburb of Dallas. "I'm blessed also. I mean, it's been a long journey. I'm just happy to be here again and have the opportunity to run fast."

Smith qualifies to play in 2011 HP Bryon Nelson Championship - MSU Golf
Midwestern State's Sam Smith qualified for this weekend's HP Byron Nelson Championship by firing a 68 (-4) in open qualifying Monday afternoon at the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club.
"This is such a great feat for Sam," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. "He played exceptional golf for us this spring. He is working hard and really dedicating himself to the game. He has a great swing."
Smith birdied five out of seven holes during a stretch on the Front Nine and closed the round with eight birdies then outlasted two others in four playoff holes to secure a spot in the 72-hole at TPC Four Seasons Golf Course in Las Colinas.
The Archer City native closed strong with birdies on 13, 15 and 18 to force the playoff. He took advantage of his strong swing to score at a 3-under rate on the course's four Par-5 holes.
Smith joins pros Martin Flores, Robert Gamez and Todd Fischer among those qualifying for the prestigious PGA event as the top four players qualified out of the field of 80.
Follow Smith at the HP Byron Nelson Championship as it airs on The Golf Channel on Thursday and Friday before moving to CBS on Saturday and Sunday. The competition broadcasts from 2-5 p.m. each day.

A&M-Kingsville Athletic Department Wins Award
KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – For the second straight year, the Texas A&M-Kingsville athletic department earned the Lone Star Conference Community Engagement Award of Excellence for their “Living the Dream” Relay.
The Community Engagement Award of Excellence recognizes Division II institutions that successfully “build bridges” with the communities in which they are located. The commitment to help member institutions build stronger civic relationships is a central part of the Division II philosophy.
The national winner will be recognized June 2 at the Division Ii Community Engagement Workshop in Indianapolis and will receive a $500 award.
