Softball Postseason awards announced - LSC Office
More than 70 softball standouts were honored Thursday as the Lone Star Conference postseason awards were announced by league officials at the championship banquet.
LSC North Division champion Midwestern State placed four players on the All-LSC North Division first team, while LSC South Division co-champions Incarnate Word and Angelo State had five and three All-LSC South first-teamers, respectively.
MSU, which won the North with a 13-4 record, was represented on the All-LSC North first team by pitcher Brittney Tanner, third baseman Mallory Mooney, outfielder Elena Bennett and utility player Amanda Potysman. In addition, Tanner was tabbed LSC North Pitcher of the Year, Kim Jerrick named Freshman of the Year, and Brady Tigert honored as Coach of the Year for the Mustangs. Southeastern Oklahoma’s Jeana Keyes earned Player of the Year honors, while her Savage Storm teammate Audra Rhudy claimed Newcomer of the Year praise.
UIW and ASU shared the South division crown with identical 15-6 marks. It was the first-ever title for the Cardinals in their inaugural LSC season, who put pitcher Briana Sanchez, first baseman Kim Hanson, third baseman Monica Acuna, designated player Lea Padilla and utility player Whitney Waltrip on the first team.
In addition, Waltrip shared LSC South Player of the Year acclaim, Sanchez picked up Pitcher of the Year recognition and Todd Bradley was tabbed Coach of the Year for the Cardinals. On the first team for the Rambelles were pitcher Claire Molina, second baseman Alix Dean and outfielder Brittany Astle. Texas Woman’s Bailey Vrazel earned both a co-Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year approval, while Tarleton State’s Samantha Swanda was Newcomer of the Year.

LSC announces Softball academic awards - LSC Office
Cameron pitcher Carrie Harvey and Angelo State second baseman Alix Dean highlighted the Lone Star Conference North and South Division All-Academic teams, respectively; as the league’s annual softball academic awards were announced Thursday at the championship banquet.
Harvey claimed North Division Academic Player of the Year honors, while Dean was tabbed South Division Academic Player of the Year for the third straight year.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.
Joining Harvey on the North Division All-Academic Team was East Central’s Emily Kennemer and Nicole Sanchez, Midwestern State’s Megan Chartier, Southeastern Oklahoma’s Cassy Tice, Central Oklahoma’s Megan Bentley and Rachel Lowery and Northeastern State’s Lisa Ripperger and Kelsi Hilderbrandt.
On the South All-Academic Team along with Dean were West Texas A&M’s Christie Russell and Meghan Slattery, Tarleton State’s Brittany Dumas, Incarnate Word’s Kaylen Skinner and Mallory Henry, Texas Woman’s Lizzy Kelly and Jordan Readicker and Abilene Christian’s Shelby Hall.

LSC Softball Championship: WT, ECU prevail on day one - LSC Office
Six teams are still in line for the title after the first day of play Thursday at the Lone Star Conference Softball Championship which continues Friday at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex in Durant, Okla.
A pair of No. 3 seeds will meet in the winner’s bracket game at 3 p.m. as West Texas A&M from the South Division and East Central from North square off with the victor advancing to the championship game Saturday.
Midwestern State faces Cameron and Angelo State plays Texas Woman’s in elimination games at 12 p.m. CU and TWU dropped their opening games Thursday but came back to win their second games to stay in the championship.

If these were to hold true, then ACU's streak of LSC titles would end at 17, but the ACU-ASU dominance would continue. Eight Selected For UCO Hall of Fame - UCO Athletics
Six of the finest athletes in school history, a long-time coach and a former two-sport athlete who went on to enjoy a lengthy coaching and officiating career have been selected for induction into the University of Central Oklahoma Athletic Hall of Fame.
Members of the 2011 class include wrestling All-Americans Jeff Robinett and Kent Taylor, football great Johnny Luter, golfer Dustin York, basketball star Gayle Stout and softball standout Rhonda Lawson as Athletes, while Dr. Gerry Pinkston goes in as a Coach and Don Brown for Lifetime Achievement.
The newest members will be formally inducted during the UCO Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday, Sept. 30 during Homecoming weekend.
