ACU softball team seeking LSC title
The Abilene Christian University softball team has a chance to accomplish two firsts this weekend. A victory gives the Wildcats a record 43 wins this season -- two wins gets them a first Lone Star Conference title.

ACU (42-11) plays Angelo State (41-8) at 5 p.m. today to open a best-of-three LSC Softball Championship series at the Wildcats' Poly Wells Field. Game 2 is noon Saturday, also at Wells Field. If needed, Game 3 will be played afterward.

Going to great lengths
As the defending national champion in the NCAA Division II women's javelin, Linda Brivule of Abilene Christian University had high expectations for this season.

She's more than lived up to them with performances that not only lead the Lone Star Conference and Division II, but have her in the top 30 in the world.

Lady Buff golfers to play in regional
The West Texas A&M women's golf team, ranked sixth in the latest NCAA West Region poll, will compete in the Division II West Super Regional beginning Monday at the Ironwood Golf and Country Club in Omaha, Neb. The Lady Buffs will be joined by two other Lone Star Conference teams, Central Oklahoma and Tarleton State.

The top three teams along with the top three individuals not on a qualifying team from each super regional will advance to the national tournament May 13-16 at Findlay, Ohio. The West Super Regional also includes St. Edward's, Western Washington, Cal State-Monterey Bay, Sonoma State, Cal State-Chico and Nebraska-Omaha.
