Men's Golf: NSU advances to nationals
Josh Boswell and Sam Powell came in at even-par 71 to lead Northeastern State to a second place finish in the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Midwest/South Central Super Regional at The Meadows Golf Course. The RiverHawks fired a final round 293, and their 54-hole total of 865 was just six shots behind champion Wayne State (Neb.).
However, Northeastern State earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships, which will be played May 19-22, at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Wash. Joining Wayne State and Northeastern State are Central Missouri State, Ferris State and Indianapolis. CMSU had an 871, while Ferris and Indianapolis were tied for fourth at 875. The RiverHawks are the only Lone Star Conference team to qualify. Texas A&M-Commerce finished the event in 7th, Central Oklahoma was 10th and Abilene Christian was 19th.

Women's Golf: TSU wins West Regional; WTAMU, ASU's Raelyn Smith advance
Tarleton State won the 2009 NCAA Division II Super Regional Four for the third straight year and West Texas A&M finished second as both teams qualified for the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships.
Angelo State's Raelyn Smith also advanced to the national tournament with a final round 82 and three-day total of 233.
Tarleton, who led by five strokes after the second day of competition, stretched its lead to 20 as the TexAnns became the first school in Super Region Four, formerly known as the West Region, to win three straight regional titles. Only one other NCAA Division II schools has won more consecutive championships as Rollins claimed four straight from 2003-06.

ACU's Jones ready to defend LSC title
Nick Jones is a fast learner.
He had thrown the discus a few times in high school at Amarillo Tascosa, nothing that would make him a serious discus thrower.
Then, last year, he became a serious study in the event his freshman year at Abilene Christian University -- and won a Division II national outdoor title with a throw of 186 feet, 11 inches.
"About halfway through the year last year, he just figured it out," ACU coach Don D. Hood said. "At the national meet, on his third throw, he threw almost 187 feet, which is just a tremendous throw. It just kind of shocked the world a little bit."
CR players sign football scholarships
Four College of the Redwoods sophomore football players recently signed scholarship offers to play football at the next level.
Defensive back Travis McCray signed a letter of intent with East Central University. McCray is originally from Chamberlain High School in Tampa Bay, Fla., East Central University (ECU) is located in Ada, Okla.ECU is an NCAA Division II institution which competes in the Lone Star Conference.
