Abilene Christian - 2010 Recruiting Class

Need Help:

Need Depth:
OL - All American Tony Washington and Levi Wolfe (HM LSC South) were seniors last year. Three starters return - Royland Tubbs (1st LSC South), Matt Webber (2nd LSC South) and Trevis Turner (HM LSC South). Of the top six returnees with the most experience, four will be seniors.

DB - Tony Harp (1st LSC South) will be hard to replace - he had 245 career tackles and 9 interceptions. Major Culbert (HM LSC South) and DuMaurier Jordan were also seniors in 2009. Experienced returnees include Drew Cuffee (HM LSC South), Richard Havins, Demetric Lee, Nathan Baggs and James Williams.

Good Quality/Depth:
QB - Three returing players with playing time in 2009. Zach Stewart started the first 5 games and is just a junior. Mitchell Gale started the final 8 games and will be just a sophomore in the fall - he threw for 1,709 yards and 10 TDs.

RB - Even though Justin Johnson did not have the impact ACU was hoping for, the Wildcats are more than okay at RB. Reggie Brown and Darryl Richardson (both 2nd team LSC South) combined for over 1,900 yards rushing and another 300 receiving, with a total of 25 TDs. Brown will be senior, while Richardson will be a junior.

WR - Dennis Campbell (30-355 0 TDs) and Trey Simeone (2nd LSC South) have moved on. Edmund Gates (1st LSC South) and Kendrick Johnson (1st LSC South return specialist) lead the returnees. Several talented redshirts from last fall may be ready to make an impact.

DL - Perhaps the strongest position on the team. Starters Aston Whiteside (1st LSC South, 9.5 sacks), Marvin Jones (1st LSC South), Nick Jones and Bryson Lewis all return, as do main reserves Ryan Smith and Mike Jones. ACU led the LSC in rushing defense - 55.5 yards per game, and just 2.0 yards per carry. Four of the top six will be seniors this fall.

LB - if DL isn't the stronges position, then LB is. Reggie Mathis was a senior last year, but everyone else is back. Kevin Washington and Courtney Lane were both 1st team LSC South, while Fred Thompson was a 2nd team selection. Eric Edwards, another starter, and reserves Arthur Johnson, Casey Carr and Derek Odeusi are also slated to be back. These top seven combined for 323 tackles, 60.5 for losses and 25 sacks (ACU led the LSC with 43).

Josh Morgan could force his way into a talented backfield, and Dyland Blount should help fortify the offensive line. Down the road look for Tee Bracy, Ashton Williams, Zack Agnew and Logan Hoppenrath for the offense, and T. R. Varnado, Brandon Dornak, Brandon Bowles, Angel Lopez and Sheldon Catley on the defense.

LSC Ranking - 8

Overall Grade- B+

Similar to UCO in that this is a good group, but small....for now. It is very possible that ACU will add some highly rated recruits before fall camp. As it stands now, not a great deal of immediate help, but some interesting prospects for the future. That should be okay, though, because ACU returns a veteran team with few immediate needs.
