Golf News
League officials announced the all-conference teams and individual awards at the banquet. This marks the sixth year for golf’s postseason awards to be voted on by league coaches. Before, all-conference honors had been determined only by results at the LSC tournament.
Carpenter has recorded three wins along with five top-10 finishes in nine tournaments with a 71.77 scoring average. With eight top-17 finishes, the freshman is ranked No. 1 in the South Central Region by Golfstat.
Cooper, the reigning player of the year, has won four tournaments this year with a 74.5 scoring average. The top-rated player in the West Region and No. 4 in the country, she has finished in the top-10 of every tournament to help the TexAnns win six team titles.
ACU’s Carpenter also earned Freshman of Year honors and the Wildcats Mike Campbell was named Coach of the Year for the men.
On the women’s side, Northeastern State’s Whitney McAteer picked up Freshman of the Year honors, while the TexAnns Jerry Doyle was named Coach of the Year.
Carpenter was the unanimous choice on the men’s first team All-LSC and was joined by ACU teammate Cyril Bouniol, Midwestern State’s Travis Klutts, Cameron’s Jason Timmis and Central Oklahoma’s Andrew Green.
Cooper headlined the list on the women’s first team All-LSC, along with Angelo State’s Raelyn Smith, NSU’s McAteer and Tarleton teammates Jacqueline Lau and Melanie Tham.
A total of 10 more players were named to the second team for both men and women, while another eight men’s players and seven women’s players were recognized as honorable mention All-LSC selections.

Javelinas Add Size to the Roster
KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s basketball coach Scott Hyland announced on Friday that he had signed three high schoolers to National Letters of Intent to continue their basketball careers for the Javelinas.
The three student-athletes are Brandy Garcia, a 5-11 wing from Edinburg North High School, Ashley Perez, a 6-2 post from Lytle and Allison Peters, a 6-4 post from Ganado.
Garcia led Edinburg North to a 27-12 record and an appearance in the regional semifinals in Class 5A. She averaged 10.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.3 blocks, 2.4 steals and 2.2 assists per game as a senior. She was named the District 31-5A Defensive Player of the Year and first team all-District, all-City and all-Valley honors. She was a four-time first team all-City and three-time first team all-District player. She was tabbed on the all-Valley team three times and was the District 31-5A Newcomer of the Year as a freshman.
“We are very excited about the addition of Brandy to the Javelina program,” said Hyland. “She has grown up around the game and it shows. She does a lot of the little things that make a team click that only a coach can really appreciate. She is a very good athlete that can handle the ball and create for others. She can go inside, post up or attack the basket and finish with either hand. She is a tremendous shooter and gives us another three-point threat.”
Perez led Lytle HS to a 29-7 record this year. She averaged a double-double per game with 14.2 points and 10.8 rebounds while also blocking 4.0 shots per game and nabbing 2.1 steals per game. She was a two-time first team all-district performer.
“We have followed Ashley’s progress very closely over the past two years and really feel she could have a great impact upon our program as she continues to develop,” said Hyland. “She is a very good athlete with good size. She has great hands and a tremendous touch around the basket, but can also step out and knock in the long-range jumper to open up the paint.”
Peters comes to the Javelinas after an outstanding career at Ganado HS. As a senior, she posted three triple-doubles and 17 double-doubles en route to earning first team all-district, Victoria Advocate All-Area, TABC All-Region, Academic all-district and Academic All-State honors. She averaged 14.4 points, 15.8 rebounds and 6.1 blocks per game while shooting 39 percent from three-point range. During her junior year he had seven triple-doubles and 12 double-doubles while earning first team all-district, Victoria Advocate All-Area, TABC All-Region and Academic all-district honors. She was also a first team all-district and Academic all-district selection as a sophomore.
“We really like Allison’s potential,” said Hyland. “She runs the floor extremely well and has good lateral movement. She has good hands and a strong face-up game that will fit our offensive system well. Obviously, we like her size and feel she has tremendous potential to develop into a high impact player.”
The Javelinas are coming off an 18-10 season that saw them advance to the Lone Star Conference Tournament.

Texas A&M University-Commerce released its 2010 football schedule on Monday that includes six home games, including five at Memorial Stadium and another at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas for the Harvey Martin Classic.
A&M-Commerce will begin the 2010 season with a 6 p.m. tilt against Upper Iowa at Memorial Stadium on September 4th. The match up against the Peacocks from Fayette, Iowa will mark the first time that the two schools have faced one another. Next, the Lions will host Angelo State in the 2010 Harvey Martin Classic at 5 p.m. at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas on September 11th. This marks the third year of the annual event and A&M-Commerce has an all-time mark of 7-1 in the Cotton Bowl.
After the match up against the Rams, the Lions will be on the road for its two longest trips of the season, traveling to Texas A&M-Kingsville (Sept. 18th at 7 p.m.) and Eastern New Mexico (Sept. 25th at 7 p.m.). 2010 marks the first year that the Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico will be participating in the realigned Lone Star Conference North Division.
After the ENMU contest, A&M-Commerce will host Southeastern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. on October 2nd at Memorial Stadium in another rigorous LSC North Division contest. Next, the Lions will return to the road for a 2 p.m. contest against Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on October 9th.
Following the NSU game, A&M-Commerce will host Tarleton State for the first time since the 2006 campaign on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. After the Texans come to town, the annual homecoming game will be on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m., when the Lions host Southwestern Oklahoma State.
The next game on the schedule for the Lions is a trip to Edmond, Oklahoma to face Central Oklahoma at 2 p.m. on October 30th. The regular season home portion of the schedule will conclude on Saturday, November 6th at 6 p.m. when the Lions host East Central. The last game of the regular season will be Lone Star Conference newcomer, Incarnate Word in San Antonio on November 13th at 2 p.m.
