LSC Weekly Release

Three weeks of Lone Star Conference division play remain as teams aim for one of eight spots, four from both the North and South Division, in the LSC Championship to be held in Durant, Okla., May 6-7-8.

League action continued last week with Midwestern State and West Texas A&M sweeping its conference series, while Southwestern Oklahoma won three of four games in the North Division and Texas Woman’s and Abilene Christian took two of three contests in the South.

LSC softball teams are 321-246 overall, with a 162-128 mark in the South and 159-118 in the North this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the women’s teams are currently 80-31 combined versus Heartland Conference squads and 36-21 against the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).

Players of the Week
NORTH HITTER
Stacey Creger, Southwestern Oklahoma, Sr., 3B, Mustang, Okla./Mustang
Creger hit .476 as Southwestern Oklahoma went 5-1 on the week and picked up three wins against East Central and a doubleheader sweep of Kansas Newman. Creger had 10 hits in 21 at bats and scored four runs. She hit two doubles, slammed her sixth home run of the season and drove in three RBIs.

NORTH PITCHER
Brittney Tanner, Midwestern State, Jr., Pitcher, Burkburnett, Texas/Burkburnett HS
Tanner played a key role in helping No. 5 Midwestern State to a perfect 6-0 week including a pair of LSC North Division sweeps of Cameron. The junior from Burkburnett limited the opposition to three earned runs on 11 hits in 21 innings for a 1.00 ERA to go 3-0 in the circle. Tanner recorded 32 strikeouts and walked seven which included 10-strikeout performances in each of her three starts which included her fifth shutout of the campaign. She was also a force at the dish where she hit .313 (5-for-16) including her first career home run - a two-run blast to left field to give MSU a 3-2 lead in Game 2 against Cameron Saturday afternoon. Tanner also had two doubles and drove in five runs.

SOUTH HITTER
Kasey Henderson, West Texas A&M, Jr., Outfielder, Katy, Texas/Katy HS
Henderson led the #18 Lady Buffs to a 5-0 record this past week including two wins on the road at Central Oklahoma and a three game sweep of Tarleton State at Lady Buff Yard in Canyon to run their overall record to 35-13 with a 9-3 mark in the LSC. Henderson went 11-16 over the week, with two doubles and two triples to drive in seven RBI while going 4-4 in stolen base attempts.

SOUTH PITCHER
Carly Case, Texas Woman’s, Sr., P, Bowie, Texas/Bowie
Appeared in five (4 starts) of the six games last week and posted a 4-0 record with one save. Pitched three complete games and struck out 15 batters in 26.2 innings and helped the Pioneers move up to the second place in LSC South Division standings. Case is tied for first in the conference with 19 wins on the season. She also leads the team in strikeouts with 125 on the season.
