That program, in its fifth year since reforming, could finish the regular season with 42 wins and become Lone Star Conference South Division champions.
Kevin Blaskowski took over the team in the fall of 2005 and began to construct a contender. He didn't expect to achieve success overnight, but he had a plan and stuck with it through winning and losing. Now, with a three-game series against Abilene Christian beginning at 1 p.m. today at Lady Buff Yard, the Lady Buffs are two wins from their first regular-season Lone Star Conference South title.
"When I got hired to bring the program back, we had a five-year plan to be competitive at the conference and national level," Blaskowski said. "We are in our fifth year, and here we are. We would have liked to get here a bit quicker. We are getting good, solid hitting, the pitching staff is much improved, and we are playing good defense. Every aspect of the game has helped us get to where we are. It's just kind of easy when you play the game as well as we are playing it right now."

Four track and field student-athletes were named Lone Star Conference Athletes of the Week honors for their efforts last week, league officials announced today.

MEN’S TRACK
Jared McNeil, Tarleton State, Jr., Distance, Saginaw, Texas/Boswell HS
McNeil finished ahead of all his NCAA Division I competition in the 1500m at the Rice Twilight in Houston on Saturday, placing second overall with a time of 3:49.26. An unattached competitor was the only runner to defeat McNeil, coming in under a second ahead of him. McNeil had already provisionally qualified for the national meet in the 1500m, but he bettered his time on Saturday, going from No. 23 in the nation to No. 8 overall.

Draper qualified for the NCAA Championships, last Saturday, placing second in the javelin throw at the Arizona State Sun Devil Open. His throw of 199’-04” currently ranks third in the Lone Star Conference.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Nicole Reid, Eastern New Mexico, So., Distance, Pueblo, Colo./East HS
Reid placed 10th in the 800-meter run at the Arizona State Sun Devil Open, with a time of 2:25.24, which is tenth in the Lone Star Conference. Her time of 11:47.86 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase is the second best in the LSC this season and earned her second place at ASU. Both times set new ENMU records.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Kassie Daugherty, Eastern New Mexico, So., Thrower, Bridgeport, Texas/Bridgeport HS
Daugherty placed seventh in the shot put at the Arizona State Sun Devil Open, with a throw of 34’-6.25. She also earned fifth in the discus, with a toss of 123’.

Helton Signs Max Carrier for 2010-11 Season
PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University men’s basketball coach Andrew Helton has announced the signing of Max Carrier (Jr., F, 6-7, 210, Moreno Valley, Calif./Irvine Valley College/Rancho Verde HS) to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Greyhounds in the upcoming 2010-11 season. He played for head coach Jerry Hernandez at IVC, and was selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player and averaged 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists, 1.5 blocks and one steal per game, while shooting 54 percent from the field.
“We are extremely excited to have Max as a Greyhound,“ said Helton. “He will fill a huge need on our team. He is a physical, skilled inside player who was a key player on a very good team at Irvine Valley College ”
Carrier’s performance was one of the primary reasons the Irvine Valley Lasers finished the season with a 26-5 record on their way to a spot in the quarterfinals of the California Junior College Championships. Over 115 teams competed for a spot in the final eight of the tournament.
Prior to IVC, Carrier played for one season at perennial NJCAA powerhouse, The College of Southern Idaho. While playing for the Golden Eagles, he shot 63.4 percent from the floor and guided the team to a 22-9 overall record.
At RVHS, he was one of the most decorated players in Riverside County , garnering all-league, All-Riverside County and All-California Interscholastic Federation as a senior. Carrier led the Mustangs to a CIF-IIA South title in the 2008 season.
Carrier joins early signees Michael Maya of Valley High School and Kyle Lantz of Manzano High School , both from Albuquerque . Both Maya and Lantz were recently named as 5A all-state players, while Maya garnered the Metro Player of the Year award.
A&M-Commerce Men's Basketball Adds Three
The Texas A&M University-Commerce men¹s basketball coaching staff today
announced the signing of Austin Brown, Tyrone Carson and Desmond King.
"All three of these young men should be immediate impacts to our program,"
said head men's basketball coach Sam Walker. "We are very excited about
having them as student-athletes at A&M-Commerce."
Brown, a 6-4 forward from Lewisville, Texas, comes to A&M-Commerce after
spending the last two seasons at Montana State. As a sophomore, he played in
29 games and averaged 12 minutes a contest. Brown scored a career-best 13
points, including 3 three pointers against Southern Mississippi. He added a
season-best nine rebounds against Sacramento State. During his freshman
year, he played in 30 games and averaged 9.5 minutes a game. He scored in
double figures twice, averaging 2.7 points and 1.7 rebounds a game for the
Bobcats. As a senior at Lewisville High School, he averaged 17 points and
nearly nine rebounds a game. He was a two time all-state selection en route
to a pair of district titles.
Carson, a 5-9 guard from Decatur, Illinois, joins the Lions after spending
the last two years at Kankakee Community College. As a sophomore, he led the
team to a 29-4 record, was 2010 Region IV champions and advanced to the
district tournament. They finished the season, ranked No. 10 in the nation.
He averaged 11.9 points, 2.9 assists and 1.5 steals a game. En route to team
MVP honors as a freshman, Carson led Kankakee with 14.2 points a game in
leading them to a 23-9 mark. He also averaged 2.7 assists and 1.1 steals a
game. Prior to Kankakee Community College, Carson was a four-year standout
at MacArthur High School in Decatur, Illinois. He earned team MVP and
all-region honors as a junior and senior.
King, a 6-6 forward from Alexandria, Louisiana, continues the pipeline from
Paris Junior College to A&M-Commerce after spending the last two seasons
with the Dragons. He earned all-conference as a sophomore, scoring a
team-best 15.7 points also averaged 5.5 rebounds a contest. The Dragons
reached back-to-back regional championship games, including a 25-6 mark as a
freshman and 27-6 as a sophomore. He earned all-region honors both as a
freshman and sophomore. Also, as a sophomore, Paris Junior College posted a
school record 17-3 mark in conference play. As a four-year starter at
Peabody Magnet High School, he was a two-time team captain and all-city
selection. He led Peabody Magnet to a state title as a junior, where he was
named the MVP of the state tournament.

A new page is being written in the annals of Plano Wildcat football.
There have been players come through the system to go on and play at about every prestigious college in the nation and pick up All-America honors and national championships on the way to the NFL draft – one selected as high as fifth – and all-pro NFL careers. There have been West Point cadets and an Air Force Academy class president.
But never has a Plano Wildcat had an opportunity to play for the Dallas Cowboys. That could all be changing.
Dan DeVega, a 6-foot-7, 290-pound lineman, will have a chance to win a job with his favorite team – other than the Wildcats, of course.
He has been invited to a Cowboys tryout camp. They need a deep snapper and DeVega will have three days to show the organization he’s the one they want. He will report Thursday.
