Field set for LSC Baseball Championship
The top six Lone Star Conference baseball teams will meet in Abilene, Texas, next weekend for the annual LSC Baseball Championship.
The tournament features six teams for the fifth straight year. The double-elimination event begins on Saturday and concludes on Tuesday. All games will take place at Crutcher Scott Field on the campus of Abilene Christian University.
LSC champion ACU is the top seed, while Southeastern Oklahoma is the No. 2 seed. Cameron is seeded third, followed by Texas A&M-Kingsville at No. 4, Angelo State at No. 5 and Tarleton State at No. 6.
Here's a look at the tournament schedule:

Tennis Championship: ACU claims men's and women's titles
Abilene Christian's claimed the men’s and women’s titles as the 2010 Lone Star Conference Tennis Championships wrapped up Saturday in Oklahoma City, Okla.
ACU's men won their second straight league title with a 5-0 shutout of Cameron, while the Wildcat women topped Northeastern State 5-1 to claim their third consecutive crown.
ACU's women led 2-1 after doubles action before claiming lopsided singles wins at No. 2, 4 and 5 to end the match. ACU lost just two games in those three singles victories.

Ada — ADA — East Central University defensive coordinator Justin Deason was probably the happiest guy on campus after Saturday’s Orange and White Game at Norris Field.
Besides coaching the White to a 10-0 victory while head coach Tim McCarty played the role of neutral observer, Deason watched his defense dominate the shorthanded ECU offense all afternoon and put an exclamation point on a spring that everybody associated with Tiger football has dubbed an unqualified success.
“We’ve talked about being physical all spring,” Deason said. “That’s something we need to get back to at East Central — hitting people and playing with confidence.
“I was pleased with the hitting out there today,” he added. “We minimized our mistakes, and we were very competitive. I was excited with the competition out there.”
Silver squad posts victory at Green and Silver Game
BLACKWATER DRAW — With the NFL draft winding down and April waning, football fans got just a little tease of what fall may hold Saturday with the annual Green and Silver game putting an exclamation point on Eastern New Mexico University’s spring camp.
ENMU coach Mark Ribaudo said the purpose of the game, which pitted the first team offense and the second team defense (Green) against the first team defense and second team offense (Silver), was to give players a good simulation of a real game situation and at the same time get a competitive game. Ribaudo got a competitive game all right as Silver blocked a field goal with six seconds left to record a 34-32 victory in front of a crowd of around 100.
“We wanted to make it a good game, which it was,” Ribaudo said. “When you have a crowd and parents out there it’s great. We wanted to see if these young quarterbacks would respond and they did great.”
Ribaudo said he’s got a lot of faith in his soon-to-be sophomore quarterback duo of Green-teamer Wesley Wood of Muleshoe and Eric Flores of Las Cruces, who led the Silver team to the win. The coach said what he saw Saturday just reinforced his comfort level with his young guns.
Wood hit 31 of 53 passes for 275 yards and two touchdown passes, and also scrambled for a 5-yard touchdown in the second quarter. More important for Ribaudo, he made good decisions and didn’t throw a pick all afternoon.
“He showed he can hold up against the pressure and make good decisions,” Ribaudo said.
In what could prove to be his coming out party, Wood said the butterflies were there as he grasped the need to take charge of the Greyhound offense.

Ground game glows in NSU spring tilt

TAHLEQUAH — Kenny Evans watched four of his ball carriers combine for 247 yards rushing, but he also saw his quarterbacks throw four interceptions.
That’s why the Northeastern State football coach gave his team a grade of B-minus after the Green-White game ended in 8-8 to tie to wrap up the RiverHawks’ spring workouts at Doc Wadley Stadium/Gable Field on Saturday.
“We’re still a young team next year,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of work to do.”
The RiverHawks, though, won’t have as much work to do on the running game — if the spring game is any indication.
LaRon Elmer, a 5-foot-7, 185-pound senior from Mesquite, Texas, led the rushing with 98 yards on 16 carries in playing for Green. Josh Lewis (5-9, 185) of Arlington, Texas, added 57 yards rushing on nine carries and scored the Green’s lone touchdown on a 17-yard run with 6:04 left in the third quarter.
“Our running game is very good,” Evans said. “Two things that will help us next fall is our offensive line is returning intact and a lot of those are the same guys who started two years ago and last year. We ran the ball more than we thought.”
Evans hoped his team would pass better, but two of the White quarterbacks — Cale Fulps of Broken Arrow and Pat Cook of Mont Belvieu, Texas — were intercepted four times. Fulps had three of them.
“You don’t want to see interceptions in this type of game,” said Evans, a Warner native who is going into his third season at the RiverHawks’ helm. “We didn’t have all of our starters out there at the same time. We may have the starting quarterback out there, but the guards and tackles are backup players.
“I wished we hadn’t thrown the ball away because turnovers are the biggest way to lose a game. All of our quarterbacks (including Kenny Davis and Keys’ Ryan Nolan) had moments, but we weren’t able to sustain drives. I would like to hope we’ll be able to do that in the fall.”
