LSC Scoop Power POll and Week Three Superlatives

1. ACU (1) - Special teams blitzed NSU for 3 first half TDs.
2. TAMK (2) - Defense shining, while offense yet to find sweet spot.
3. WT (3) - Dominated game in all aspects.
4. MSU (4) - Under the radar?  Not after another dominating performance.
5. ASU (6) - Quietly going about the business and climbing the charts.
6. TAMC (5) - Offense never got on track, defense had no answers for Pecikonis/Lacey.
7. UCO (10) - Young Bronchos bounce back and win one for the North.
8. SOSU (11) - 276 of 471 offensive yards came on 4 plays.
9. NSU (7) - Defense played well, but Special Teams were horrible.
10. TSU (8) - Fall behind early again, not enough firepower to overcome.
11. ENMU (9) - hung with MSU for most of the first half, but could not stop the first unit. 
12. ECU (12) - Defense gave up yards, but outscored offense and gave them some great field position.
13. UIW (13) - Cardinals led 6-3 after one, but turnovers and defensive lapses too much to overcome.
14. SWO (14) - Licking wounds, and now Midwestern State?

Best Overall Team Performance - West Texas A&M

The Buffs got scores from their special teams, defense and offense (a bunch of them) in their 77-14 defeat of Southwestern Oklahoma.  The offense rolled up 557 yards, despite emptying the bench, while the defense limited the Bulldogs to just 212 yards and forced 12 punts and 3 interceptions.

Best Overall Offensive Performance - Midwestern State

The Mustangs piled up 526 yards, including 372 on the ground in Saturday's 44-17 win over Eastern New Mexico.  The Mustangs had 4 scoring drives of more than 60 yards and controlled the ball for more than 40 minutes in the win.

Best Overall Defensive Performance - Texas A&M-Kingsville

The Javelinas' defense limited ECU to just 87 total yards on the evening, 96 passing and -9 rushing.  TAMK was especially tough in the second half, with ECU running just 16 plays on 5 possessions, picking up just one first down.  The Javelinas sacked Tyler Vanderzee 5 times, had two interceptions, forced four fumbles (two of which they recovered), and did not allow a TD, despite ECU twice starting drives inside the TAMK 20 yard line.  TAMK has not allowed a defensive TD since the first quarter of the opening game.

Best Special Teams Performance (Special Award this Week) - Abilene Christian

The Wildcats blocked three NSU punts, two of which were returned for TDs, and the third set up ACU on the Riverhawk 12 yard line, with ACU scoring two plays later.  In addition, Kendrick Johnson returned a second quarter punt 80 yards for another TD.

Best Offensive Performance - Brandon DeFrance, Southeastern Oklahoma

DeFrance caught just three passes against Incarnate Word, but two of them were huge.  Trailing 6-3 early in the second quarter, DeFrance scored on an 81 yard pass from Logan Turner.  On the Savage Storm's next possession, he and Turner hooked up again, this time for a 74 yard TD, putting SOSU up 17-6.  DeFrance finished with 168 yards receiving, and a nice 56 yard average per reception.

Best Defensive Performance - Devin McDonald, Angelo State

McDonald, lead the Rams' defense in harassing TAMC QB Adam Farkes all afternoon.  Mc Donald finished the game with 6 tackles, including 3.5 losses, with 2.5 sacks and a QB hurry.

Best Special Teams Performance - Nate  Bailey and Chris Jones, Abilene Christian

Bailey blocked two punts, both of which were recovered by Jones.  The first block was returned 20 yards for a TD, giving ACU a 20-0 lead late in the first quarter, while the second gave ACU the ball on the NSU 12 yard line, setting up a short TD drive putting ACU ahead 33-13 midway through the third quarter.
