Basketball Regional Rankings out 1-26

Lady Buffs No. 6 in First Set of Regional Rankings - WTAM Sports Information

INDIANANPOLIS, Ind. – The first set of South Central Regional rankings were released on Wednesday and the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs came in at No. 6 in the initial poll, which was released by the NCAA this afternoon.

Northeastern State (14-1) topped the first poll among the South Central region teams, with Washburn (13-2) right behind at No. 2. Tarleton State (12-2) came in at No. 3 this week, with Northwest Missouri State (12-2) and Emporia State (10-4) rounding out the top five spots.

Closing out the top-eight spots behind the Lady Buffs (11-6) was Central Oklahoma (11-5) and Southeastern Oklahoma (10-5). The top eight teams in the final regional poll earn a trip to the South Central Regional postseason tournament.

The Lady Buffs will host Tarleton Wednesday evening at the First United Bank Center. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

MSU Men's Basketball: Midwestern opens South Central Region rankings at No. 8 - MSU Sports Information

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State stands eighth in the first South Central Regional rankings of the 2010-11 season as released Wednesday by the NCAA Division II Basketball Committee.

The top eight teams from each of the eight regions advance to the postseason which will be played from March 12-15 at campus sites.

Tournament selections will take place via a Web cast selection show on NCAA.com on Sunday, March 6.

The winners of each regional gain a berth into the Elite Eight which is played at the MassMutual Center from March 23-26 in Springfield, Mass.

The South Central Region consists of the Lone Star Conference, Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association and Heartland Conference.

Each of the conference's postseason tournament winners earns an automatic bid into the postseason, while five other gain at-large bids.

Midwestern State advanced to the South Central Regional as LSC champions in 1999, 2000, 2007. 2009 and 2010.

MIAA leading Missouri Southern (13-1) opens at No. 1 followed by Central Oklahoma (15-2), Incarnate Word (13-2), West Texas A&M (13-2), Fort Hays State (14-2) to close out the Nos. 1-5 positions.

Texas A&M-Commerce (10-5) stands in at No. 6 despite losses to Tarleton State and Midwestern State, but the Lions are padded by No. 7 Washburn (Kan.) (9-5) followed by the Mustangs (10-4) and Texans (10-3) at Nos. 8 and 9, respectively.

Cameron (7-6) fills out the ranking at No. 10.

Midwestern State takes on Texas A&M-Kingsville on the road Wednesday night at Steinke Center. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
