Midwestern State loses two football coaches

Wonder Boys name Dean Norsworthy as its new offensive coordinator - ATU Athletics
Arkansas Tech Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Steve Mullins has announced the addition of Dean Norsworthy to his coaching staff as the Wonder Boys offensive coordinator.

Norsworthy, who began his duties last week, comes to Tech after spending the past three seasons (2008-10) as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Midwestern State. Midwestern State is an NCAA Division II school that plays in the Lone Star Conference and is located in Wichita Falls, Texas.

“We are fortunate to add a coach that has had the success Dean (Norsworthy) has achieved in his career,” Mullins said. “We look forward to the development of our offense under Coach Norsworthy’s direction.”

UTSA hires Nathaniel Jones as assistant coach - UTSA Athletics
UTSA head football coach Larry Coker announced Wednesday the hiring of Nathaniel Jones as an assistant coach. He will tutor the team’s cornerbacks and his appointment is effective immediately.

“Nathaniel is an outstanding recruiter and cornerbacks coach,” Coker said. “He comes to us from a very successful Midwestern State program and he’s a great addition for UTSA. He is the ninth assistant coach we’ve brought on board and his hiring completes our inaugural coaching staff. Now we will be able to do a much more thorough job in recruiting, especially covering the state of Texas.”

ASU player charged in theft - Jennifer Rios, San Angelo Standard Times
An Angelo State University basketball player is accused of taking an Xbox 360 from the school's Houston Harte University Center and selling it at a local pawnshop.

LaMarshall Avanti Corbett was arrested on a theft charge Wednesday afternoon, according to Tom Green County Jail bookings. Corbett, 22, was charged with theft between $50 and $500, according to online records. He was released later that day on a $1,500 bond. He has been indefinitely suspended by ASU.

Athletic department spokesman Kevin McCartey said he doesn't know when the last time an alleged criminal act led to an athlete being suspended.

"It doesn't happen often," McCartey said.

USTFCCCA NCAA Division II National Team Rankings

The first-ever preseason national computer rankings for NCAA Division II indoor track & field were released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The men of Saint Augustine’s and the women of Grand Valley State claim the early season top spots.

Here are the LSC teams and individual rankings.

Men
5. ACU - Amos Sang is #1 in the 5,000 meter, and #4 in the Mile, while Ramon Sparks is #1 in the triple jump and #3 in the long jump. Desmond Jackson is #4 in the 60 meter and #5 in the 200 meter. Other Wildcats ranked are Kevin Johnson (21st in the 60 meter hurdles), Nick Jones (11th in the shot put), Tyler Fleet (20th in the weight throw) and Parker Petty (18th in the heptathlon).

32. TAMK - CJ Griggs is #8 in both the long jump and triple jump, while Isaiah Glover is #10 in the triple jump, Connell Davis is #14 in the long jump, and the team is #30 in the 4x400 meter relay.

65. WTAM - Tanner Dennis is #18 in the pole vault and Gage Mayer is #21 in the high jump.

82. UIW - Sebastien Jaraba-Heffner is #26 in the 800 meter, while the team is #28 in the distance medley relay.

Women
54. ACU - Anais Belledant is #12 in the mile, Denise Nixon is #15 in the triple jump, Amanda Clemons is #25 in the triple jump and the team is #28 in the 4x400 meter relay.

75. WTAM - Bailee Skeen is #18 in the 60 meter hurdles.
