Recruiting Insight - Trevion Sims

The first of our 2011 Recruiting Insight interviews is with Trevion Sims.  Sims and his Cameron Yoe teammates lost just one game in 2010, a 33-27 decision to Daingerfield in the championship game.  Sims was a big part of the defense, amassing 132 tackles (8.8 per game) and 4 interceptions.  He was named to the AP second team All-State team for his efforts.  No one year wonder, in 2009 Trevion had 93 tackles, 3 more interceptions and 3 sacks. As a sophomore in 2008 he had 94 tackles, an interception and 2 sacks.

Q -Trevion, Cameron Yoe had an outstanding season, losing a heartbreaker in the championship game a  year after going 6-4 and not making the playoffs. How were the Yoeman able to put everything together for the entire season?
A- Every week we had to have a great week worth of practice to win.

Q - What game will you remember most from high school and why?
A- The State Championship because it was my first being there and it was a great experience.

Q - When did college recruiters start coming around?
A- The week of playoffs.

Q - Recruiting - What schools are you hearing from, and where would you like to study and play?
A- I’m not hearing from any schools, and I would like to attend UTSA, ACU, MENLO, TCU, really anywhere.

Q - How big of a role will academics play in your decision? Have you decided on a major?
A- A big role because education is an important role in my life. Major in Physical therapy and minor in children education.

Q - What strengths do you have that will help you be successful at the collegiate level?
A - I have great man-to-man and zone coverage.  I’m a great form tackler and I love this game.

Q - Who are your role models, or the people that have helped you get to where you are today?
A- Kwame Kavill he help me get better at my position and bettered me as a person.

Q - What teammates are getting looks from universities? Who is not getting recruited that should be?
A- Jack Rhoades (1st team all state 3,363 yds and 44 TDs passing, 42.3 yds punting avg.) is the only one being recruited. (LB) Oneil Spells (245 tackles, 2nd team all state), (RB)Daymon Kelly (1,640 yds and 24 TDs rushing, 332 yds receiving, honorable mention all state) and (DL) Deatanea Holt (179 tackles, 2nd team all state) should (be given a chance to play in college).

Thanks Trevion.  You will certainly be a steal for whatever university you choose to study and play ball for.
