IT’S A MATCHUP OF RANKED TEAMS
The latest national poll for men’s basketball in Division II is out and it means Wednesday night at Incarnate Word there will be a matchup of ranked teams.
UIW is number 12 according to the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The Cardinals are now 11-1 after losing their last game and that defeat cost them to drop three spots in the poll. This however is still the highest Incarnate Word has been ranked since joining the NCAA some 11-plus years ago.
While Incarnate Word dropped three spots it was not the most severe fall. Findlay of Ohio had been the top team in the nation until losing a game last week. Findlay dropped seven levels to number eight.
And the new poll has West Texas A&M at number 19 after the Buffalos were unranked until now. WTAM comes to San Antonio with a spotless 13-0 mark. Tipoff for these two on Wednesday is 7:30 p.m. at UIW’s McDermott Center.
That 11-0 start by UIW was the fourth best in school history to begin a season.
UCO men's basketball moves up in national poll
Central Oklahoma came in 15th in this week’s NABC/Division II Coaches’ Poll, moving up three spots in the weekly rankings.
The Bronchos of ninth-year head coach Terry Evans have won four straight games to get to 14-2 on the season and begin their bid for a fourth consecutive Lone Star Conference North Division champion Wednesday at Southwestern Oklahoma.
UCO is one of four league teams in the top-25 poll, with Incarnate Word ranked 12th, West Texas A&M 19th and Midwestern State 23rd.
West Liberty (W.Va.) took over as the No. 1 team this week, followed by Bellarmine (Ky.), Fort Hays State (Kan.), Hillsdale (Mich.) and Augusta State (Ga.).

Buffs one of four Lone Star Conference teams in Top-25
CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M is ranked 19th in the NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) Division II Coaches’ Poll, as released by the NABC today.
The Buffaloes (13-0), one of just five remaining undefeated teams in the country, last made an appearance in the Top-25 poll on March 4, 2008 (19th).
Since joining the Division II ranks, the Buffs have been in the national rankings a total of 31 times, dating back to the 1986-87 season. Their highest ranking was fifth, which they attained most recently on Feb. 16, 1998, while their highest end-of-season ranking was ninth at the conclusion of the 1997-98 season.
In addition to the Buffs, three additional Lone Star Conference teams are among the Top-25, including 12th-ranked Incarnate Word, 15th-ranked Central Oklahoma and 23rd-ranked Midwestern State.
The 19th-ranked Buffaloes open LSC South play this Wednesday, January 12, when they travel to San Antonio, Texas, to face 12th-ranked Incarnate Word. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. CST at UIW’s McDermott Center. The game may be heard over the Buffalo Sports Network and flagship station KGNC-AM in Amarillo.
MSU Men's Basketball: Mustangs fall two spots to No. 23 in NABC Division II Poll
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State slipped two spots to No. 23 in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches' Division II after splitting a pair of Lone Star Conference Crossover contests last week.
The Mustangs had their 12-game winning streak snapped at the hands of Central Oklahoma, which moved up three spots to No. 15 this week, to fall to 12-2 on the season.
The teams are just two of six teams from the rugged South Central Region to receiving mention in this week's poll which also includes No. 3 Fort Hays State (Kan.), No. 12 Incarnate Word, No. 19 West Texas A&M and No. 22 Missouri Southern.
Midwestern State opens Lone Star Conference South Division play Wednesday night against Angelo State at Junell Center/Stephens Arena. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
