Bears' Webb didn't let leaving UT stop him - Tom Osborn, San Antonio Express News

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — J'Marcus Webb rarely thinks about his short stint at Texas anymore.

As far as the Chicago Bears rookie right tackle is concerned, it's ancient history. Plus, he's got more pressing matters to occupy his mind, including his expected showdown with Pro Bowl linebacker Clay Matthews and the Green Bay Packers in Sunday's NFC title game.

Webb appeared in 12 games as a true freshman for the Longhorns, but academic problems forced him to leave school. After a year at Navarro College, he transferred to Division II West Texas A&M.

Last April, the Bears drafted him in the seventh round.

“Everything worked out just fine,” Webb said.

A blue-chip prospect coming out of North Mesquite High School in the Dallas suburbs, Webb admitted he was immature when arrived in Austin.

“I fell from grace a little bit,” he said. “But I kept working, kept believing in myself, kept thinking positive. I knew I'd be here someday.”
