WEATHERFORD, Okla. -- Southwestern Oklahoma State University has announced that 11 new student-athletes have completed the transfer process and are now enrolled at the school to play football next season with the Bulldogs. Third-year coach Dan Cocannouer and his staff revealed the list Thursday with their eye cast towards continuing the Bulldogs rapid improvement on the football field.
“I believe we've met many of our needs," Cocannouer said. "We needed to get bigger on the defensive side and pick up a couple of offensive playmakers. We've got a good nucleus of young players, and I believe this group is going to solidify a number of important areas for us."
Cocannouer said his staff spent considerable time pouring over lists and watching hours of film before narrowing it down to the states of Oklahoma, California, Colorado, Missouri, Kansas and Mississippi.
“This group of players met all the criteria we were looking for when we started this process,” Cocannouer said. “They are all good character guys and someone who really wants to be here and work with us to make our program better.”

Kale Sawatzky, LB, 6-2, 210, Fr., University of Oklahoma/Weatherford HS…Spent last season at the University of Oklahoma where he was named the Scout Team Player-of-the-Year…Multiple all-state selection at Weatherford High School where he led team to an 11-1 record and a berth in the Class 4A semifinals in 2009…Rushed for more than 3,000 yards in his career, including 857 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior…Also caught 26 passes for 301 yards and three scores…Team leader on defense side of ball, finishing with 160 tackles, four sacks, an interception and three blocked kicks.
Andre Simmons, WR, 6-2, 200, Sr., University of Colorado /Blackville, SC…Played the 2009 season at the University of Colorado where he saw action in 11 games with one start…Had two catches for 47 yards, including a 44-yarder against Colorado State …Listed on Rivals.com 2009 Top 100 list as the No. 35 player overall and No. 6 wide receiver after impressive two seasons at Independence Community College…Had 91 catches for 1,215 yards and nine touchdowns as a freshman and sophomore…Set Independence school record with 12 catches for 232 yards in a single game and was named the KJCAA Player-of-the-Week…. All-State, All-Region and All-Area as a senior at South Carolina’s Blackville-Hilda High School, when he set school season records with 12 touchdown receptions and career record for interceptions with 14.
Jabari Harris, QB, 6-2, 205, So., University of Mississippi/Murrah HS…Attended the University of Mississippi on a track scholarship and later earned a spot on the football team as a walk-on…All-state football and track star at Murrah High School…Threw for more than 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior before injuries limited his senior year to just four games…Threw for 32 touchdowns in his high school career and rushed for another 14…State champion in the 400 meter dash and 300 meter intermediate hurdles…Earned Academic All-American honors in school and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Jim O’Brien, LB, 6-2, 225, Jr., San Bernardino Valley College/Rim of the World HS…Unanimous first team all-Mountain Conference selection for his role in leading the state in tackles at the linebacker position. …Had 26 solo tackles, assisted on 82 others, equaling 108 total tackles at SBVC…Also had 5.5 tackles for loss totaling 11 yards, one interception, three broken up passes, recovered two fumbles, had one forced fumble, and one blocked kick…Graduate of Lakeland’s Rim of the World High School.
Kaci Roinson, DE, 6-3, 295, Jr., Arkansas-Pine Bluff/Little Rock Central HS…Played two seasons at Independence Junior College in Kansas before transferring to the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff…All-conference pick at Little Rock Central High School where he helped lead the team to a 10-1 record and a berth in the state playoffs.
Cory Jones, RB/WR, 5-6, 165, So., Friends University/Jenks HS…Rushed for over 1,800 yards and scored 22 touchdowns in his career at Jenks High School where he helped lead the Trojans to the 2008 and 2009 Class 6A state title…Older cousin, Kejuan, played at the University of Oklahoma…Spent one season at Friends University where he had 19 carries for 105 yard and one touchdowns.
Arec Tucker, CB, 6-3, 180, Fr., Missouri Southern/Staley HS…Honorable mention all-conference player for the Kansas City Suburban Small Six…Played wide receiver in high school…Also ran track and participated in the high jump.
Cory Johnson, OL, 6-2, 270, Jr., College of the Siskiyous…First-team all-Mid Empire Conference for California's College of the Siskiyous…Graduate of Fortuna High School.
Jamaal Lewis, OL, 6-3, 300, Jr., Kilgore Junior College/Arlington Bowie HS...Two-year starter at Kilgore Junior College where he played for coach J.J. Eckert…Helped lead the Rangers to the SWJCFC playoffs after an 0-4 start…Team advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to Navarro….First-team, all-district selection at Arlington Bowie High School where he played for Coach Kenny Perry.
Dustin Crowley, LB, 6-0, 210, So., Blanchard, OK HS…Two-time defensive MVP at Blanchard High School…Finished senior season with 94 tackles…Once had 17 tackles in a game against Newcastle...Attended school at Oklahoma State University-OKC.
Kemaine Thurston, DL, 6-1, 285, Jr., San Bernardino Valley College/Arroyo Valley HS... Two-year starter for SBVC where he helped the Wolverines to a 5-5 record which included four-straight victories and a 29-21 season-ending victory over Los Angeles Harbor…Graduate of Arroyo Valley High School where he was a three-year starter and also a member of the school’s varsity wrestling team.
