LSC Preseason Softball Poll

Southeastern Oklahoma and Angelo State were chosen as the frontrunners for the Lone Star Conference softball divisional titles in 2009 as the preseason polls were announced by league officials on Friday.

Southeastern Oklahoma is the top choice in the Lone Star Conference North Division after a record-breaking season with 53 victories in 2008, which set the school record and tied the conference record for victories in a season.

Angelo State is the favorite to win a third straight Lone Star Conference South Division title. The Rambelles collected 15 of the 18 first-place votes cast by LSC coaches, sports information directors and various media representatives.

Cameron's Megan Young and UCO's Alley Roberts shared LSC North Division Preseason Player of the Year acclaim.

Midwestern State's Katie Peterson was named LSC North Division Preseason Pitcher of the Year. In 2008, she was 26-9 with a 1.28 ERA while limiting the opposition to a .211 batting average against. The junior allowed 171 hits and 59 walks in 224 innings while fanning 203 batters.

Macy Baker was named South Division Player of the Year for the second straight year after hitting .374 with a team-best 10 home runs and 54 RBI in 2008. She begins her senior season within range of several ASU and LSC career records, needing just 10 RBI to become the conference's top all-time run producer.

Texas A&M-Kingsville's Courtney Rigamonti was tabbed LSC South Division Preseason Pitcher of the Year. The Javelinas top starting pitcher was 13-20 with a 2.91 ERA in 2008. She struck out 99 batters in 30 starts with 28 complete games.
