Javelina Women's Player Juggles Motherhood, School, Basketball (with video)
The Javelina women's team has already won four more games than all of last season and much of that success is due to senior Lakeisha Jones, who's averaging 15 points and 8 boards per game.
For Lakeisha Jones, the past three years have been an absolute rollercoaster, beginning at Paris Junior College in North Texas.

"It was May of '06 and I had just signed my national letter of intent to go and play for Northwestern, and Coach Holland told me, 'Keisha, this is when the doors start opening for you'. He was just telling me how big of an opportunity it was to go to Northwestern, and so I signed my scholarship that day, graduated that day, then a week later, I found out I was going to have a daughter," Jones said.

For a lot of young girls that would have meant basketball was over, but not for Keisha. She took a year off, and during that time, current Javelina Head Coach Scott Hyland left Paris for Kingsville and brought Jones with him. "She had Big 10 and ACC schools after her.Getting her down here has been a great move for her and her family," Hyland said.


ACU opens indoor track season today
The Abilene Christian University men's and women's track and field teams open the indoor season today at the two-day Texas Invitational in Lubbock.

The ACU men have six individual national champions returning in seniors Camille Vandendriessche (decathlon in 2007 and 2008), Julius Nyango (800 meters in 2007), Daniel Maina (3000 steeplechase in 2008), Raymond Radway (400 meters in 2008), junior Jordan Johnson (400 meters in 2006) and sophomore Nick Jones (discus in 2008).
The Wildcats have 10 other Division II All-Americans back this season.

"I want our team to have a little bit of a swagger, and when we walk into a meet with those six guys and our other returning guys, we've got a swagger," ACU coach Don D. Hood said. "It's hard to describe the amount of confidence winning gives a team and its athletes. It's a contagious effect in that our guys who haven't had success on a national level are able to see those other guys work, and it rubs off on them. Winning and being around winners means other guys work hard and get better."
