Texas A&M-Kingsville duo receives Lone Star Conference South honors
Despite pinning a second consecutive 31-point loss on Central Oklahoma, West Texas A&M was blanked in weekly player of the week honors announced Monday by the Lone Star Conference.
Texas A&M-Kingsville nabbed two of three South Division honors after pounding East Central, 44-14. Linebacker Arlen Childress, the top defensive player, led a Javelinas defense that forced four turnovers and held East Central to minus-1 yard rushing in the first half.
Teammate Eric Ford recovered a fumble, downed a punt at the EC 2 yard line and had 3.5 tackles on kickoffs to earn special teams honors.
Tarleton running back had 187 yards on 15 carries and scored twice in Tarleton State's 36-10 win over Northeastern State.
South Division teams went 5-1 in crossover games vs. the North.
