North Offensive
Daniel Nichols, Southeastern Oklahoma, Jr., WR, Cooper, Texas/Cooper
Nichols turned in a seven recpetion, 166 yard performance in a 29-14 win over Eastern New Mexico. The performance was one of the best single game outings in the conference this season, with 166 yards and his long of 73 both marking the best in the league on the year. His first touchdown gave SOSU its first lead in the game against ENMU and his second pushed that lead to eight points.
North Defensive
Bernard Daniel, Southeastern Oklahoma, Jr., Safety, Carrollton, Texas/Hebron
Daniel led Southeastern's defense to a 29-14 win over Eastern New Mexico. He tallied nine tackles in the contest, as well as a pair of interceptions. He is the only player in the LSC with more than one pick this season. He also had 1.5 tackles for loss as he led a defense that allowed just one offensive score.North Special TeamsNo nominations.
Co-South Offensive
Bernard Scott, Abilene Christian, Sr., Running Back, Vernon, Texas/Wichita Falls
Scott topped the 100-yard receiving mark for the first time in his career Saturday with six catches for 131 yards and one touchdown catch. His previous career high for receiving in a game was seven catches for 82 yards and one touchdown in last season's 59-31 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville in Abilene...Scott added 121 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries, his lightest workload carrying the ball in a regular-season game since a nine-carry performance in last season's 58-7 win over Northeastern State on Oct. 6, 2007...Scott has now topped 100-yards rushing in 13 of his 15 career ACU football games and has seven straight 100-yard rushing performances dating back to last season...With his three-touchdown day (two rushing, one receiving), Scott has scored a touchdown in 14 straight games dating back to last season. In fact, the only game in Scott's career in which he failed to find the end zone was the first game of his career, last year's 27-17 loss to Central Oklahoma in the season-opener...Scott has nine straight games with at least two rushing touchdowns, and he now has 10 games in his career with at least three touchdowns...Scott now has 39 career rushing touchdowns and five career receiving touchdowns, giving him 44 career touchdowns and 264 career points, both second on ACU's all-time lists.
Billy Garza, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Sr., Quarterback, Brownsville, Texas/Porter
In just his third career start, Garza passed for 350 yards on 24-of-38 passing in leading the Javelinas to a second straight road victory. He completed his first seven passes of the second half in leading the Javelinas to a touchdown. Later in the third quarter, he accumulated all 82 rushing and passing yards in leading the team to another touchdown. He has improved his passing yardage each week from 95 to 184 to 350. His passer rating is now at a season high 127.10.
South Defensive
Darius Bortters, Midwestern State, Sr., Safety, Garland, Texas/Garland
Bortters picked up a rain-soaked fumble and raced 25 yards for a touchdown to give Midwestern State a 7-3 win over Northeastern State Saturday night in a driving rainstorm at Doc Wadley Stadium in Tahlequah. The senior safety from Garland finished the night with four tackles as the MSU defense closed out the game by turning away the RiverHawks in the red zone twice in the final six minutes to secure the victory. Bortters also got a hand on a Joe Kok punt in the third quarter and would have been credited with a second touchdown when he pounced on a blocked punt in the end zone had the Mustangs not been flagged for being offside.
South Special Teams
James Chandler, West Texas A&M, Jr., Kicker, London, England/Los Lomas (Calif.)
Chandler connected on a career-long 53-yard field goal, as well as kicking 10 PATs, to account for 13 points in the Buffs' 75-13 victory over Azusa Pacific. Additionally, he kicked five of his 12 kickoffs into the endzone for touchbacks.
