ACU offensive lineman Washington has sights set again on NFL dream
Tony Washington has long dreamed of playing in the NFL. He even has the NFL logo tattooed on his right arm. But that dream has taken its hits throughout the years — sometimes because of Washington’s own actions.

The dream, in fact, almost never had a chance.

Washington, who is Abilene Christian’s starting left tackle, quit playing football after his freshman year at Alcee Fortier High School in New Orleans. The coaching staff eventually coaxed him into returning to football his senior year.

“I had some issues and stuff in life,” Washington said. “It kind of took me for a whirlwind. But I picked it up. My coaches encouraged me to pick it back up. I was the biggest guy on the team, period.”

NSU continues tough schedule on Saturday
The Northeastern State football team continues its tough schedule on Saturday when they travel to Wichita Falls, Texas, for a Lone Star Conference crossover game against Midwestern State.

The Mustangs enter Saturday’s contest undefeated with a pair of convincing wins over New Mexico Highlands and Southeastern Oklahoma.

“It’s just another quality opponent,” said RiverHawks coach Kenny Evans. “NSU has not won a game over a Lone Star South team in over seven years. On the plus side, we’ve played two quality opponents and have had a chance to win.”

First losses raise Lady Buffs' focus
It took two losses in Denver to do it, but West Texas A&M's volleyball players seem to know now what kind of leadership and intensity it takes to be the best.

The Lady Buffs (7-2), who fell from third to seventh in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, got back to practice after losing to Central Missouri and Metro State College at the Colorado Premier Challenge.

Coach Jason Skoch said he saw a change in the way his players were working at WT Fieldhouse this week.

"Now, everyone's on the same focus and intensity level, and (the players) are the ones managing it," Skoch said Tuesday. "And that's what I'm wanting."

O'Neals give MSU a strong sister act
It’s one of those unwritten rules that everybody is always talking about. An older sibling can pick-on, tease or torture a younger sibling as much as he or she wants.

But let someone outside of the family try to do the same thing and there could be a fight — or at least a few choice words.

Dandena won the Javelinas’ first meet of the year at Texas A&M-International leading the team to a first place finish. He clocked a 16:08 in the 5K race.

FEMALE
Sydnee Cole, Midwestern State, Jr., Phillipsburg, Kan./Phillipsburg HS
Cole made a splash in her Midwestern State debut by claiming top individual honors at the MSU Cross Country Stampede. The junior transfer from Butler County (Kan..) Community College covered the 4K course in a school-record 15:23.82. The Mustangs placed second as a team.
