Buffs drop from AFCA top 25 poll
Following the first 0-2 start under fifth-year head coach Don Carthel, the West Texas A&M Buffaloes fell out of the American Football Coaches Association Division II poll, announced Monday. The Buffs have been ranked in the AFCA top 25 weekly poll since Sept. 25, 2005.

The Buffs fell to top-ranked Grand Valley State, 37-23 on Aug. 29 and preseason No. 16 Central Oklahoma, 24-17, last week. WT takes on No. 6 Central Washington in Ellensburg, Wash., at 3 p.m. (CDT) Saturday.

Among Lone Star Conference schools, Abilene Christian (2-0) rose to No. 2, while Texas A&M-Kingsville (2-0) is No. 11. Tarleton State (2-0) and UCO (1-1), which were not ranked last week, broke in at No. 22 and No. 24, respectively.

Mustangs gain momentum in AFCA Coaches' Poll
Midwestern State is still on the outside looking in on the American Football Coaches’ Association Division II Coaches’ Poll despite thumping Southeastern Oklahoma last Saturday night at Paul Laird Field. The Mustangs received 27 votes, moving them closer to obtaining a national ranking for the fourth straight year.

Incarnate Word outlasts Mustangs in five
Incarnate Word’s Edie Weise’s put down a match-high 17 kills and added four blocks to lead the Cardinals to a 3-2 win over Midwestern State Monday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Cardinals (7-2) claimed the defensive struggle 25-20, 20-25, 25-16, 25-18, 15-11.
