LSC Women's Soccer Recap

Week three of 2009’s campaign finds two LSC schools in the Nations top 25 –
WT A&M appears at the 7th position after receiving votes last week and Midwestern improved to #14 from 21st last week. WT’s rise resulted from a 1-0 win over tough St Edwards (who fell from 15th to 21st). The regional poll also rewarded WT and Midwestern with a 1-2 rank this week.

One more week of non-conference play remains before LSC play begins.

West Texas A&M - As mentioned above, Friday 9.11 the Buffs defeated St Edwards at The Pitch in Canyon. Only seven shots total in the game – this sounds like a tough defensive battle of the midfielders. On Sunday the Lady Buffs gave coach Lauffer his 400th win (includes both men’s and women’s team records). WT scored three unanswered goals before UTPB scored in the 72nd minute. Freshman Korey Schroeder played in goal for WT. DBU was on the schedule for a game in Dallas on Tuesday the 15th, but that game was scuttled due to weather.

On Monday Sept 21 the Lady Buffs travel to face New Mexico State, and Wednesday face College of the Southwest before beginning conference play against Eastern New Mexico.

A&M-Commerce - Last Thursday the Lady Lions traveled to Harding (Searcy AR) and drummed the Bisons 6-0. The game was 4-0 at half. St. Mary’s was scheduled for Sunday the 13th but cancelled due to weather.

Friday the 18th finds Commerce on a trip to San Antonio to test #25 Incarnate Word and Sunday will face #21 St Edwards in Austin. Tough weekend test coming up for the Lions!

Central Oklahoma - The Lady Bronchos notched their first win of the season, defeating DBU 1-0 in Edmond. The winning goal came shortly before halftime. Central showed their youth movement by playing 14 freshmen and soph’s in the contest. Newman became their second victim of the weekend also by a 1-0 score. The game was finished but included a 15 minute lightning delay. Tuesday night Oklahoma Baptist came to town and became the Bronchos third victim in as many games, 2-0. Makenzie Caldwell was honored as Defensive POW for the conference for her play in the three shutout wins.

This weekend the Bronchos climb back in the bus for a trip to San Antonio and face St. Mary’s and A&M International. Can they keep this winning streak going ?

Midwestern - The Mustangs are enjoying the highest ranking in the program’s history this week at #14, climbing seven notches from last weeks 21st spot. Friday the Mustangs visited Wichita for a contest with Newman, with the match ending in a 2OT 1-1 tie. Newman scored first in the contest, with the Mustangs equalizer coming in the 88th minute.

Thursday NAIA opponent Northwood visits Wichita Falls. Tuesday the 22nd the squad visits SAC’s Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee.

ACU - The Wildcats faced #6 Incarnate Word on Friday. The Cardinals handed the Lady Cats a rainy 3-0 defeat. Incarnate Word scored their first in the 32nd minute, and added the last goal in the 90th minute. Tuesday night the Wildcat side faced cross town rival Hardin Simmons and lost 1-2 in the second OT. While the sun was shining for the first time in days, the water soaked pitch did little to make the match easy.

DBU travels to Abilene for a Thursday afternoon match, while ACU tries to halt a three match skid.

Angelo State - A&M International was on the wrong end of a 6-0 barrage on Friday and Sunday the Rambelles delivered an impressive 1-0 defeat of ranked Incarnate Word.
Angelo landed two POW honors with Frosh Hanna Horeis receiving the Offensive award after scoring in each contest, and the GK of the week by Melanie Peterson for the two shutouts.

Thursday UT-Brownsville visits San Angelo and DBU is in for a Saturday match.
This begins a five game home stand, including the first three conference games.
After early struggles Angelo could be putting things together just in time for the beginning of conference play.

TWU - The Pioneers defeated a ranked NAIA Texas Wesleyan 2-0, scoring in the 23rd and 85th minute, before losing to St. Edwards 1-0 on Sunday. St. Ed’s outshot the packed-in Pioneers 26-1 before finding the net in the 92nd minute.

This weekend’s match is a D1 opponent, Houston Baptist.

East Central Oklahoma - Scheduled Sunday match with Oklahoma City University was postponed due to (what else) heavy rains.

This weekend brings a bus trip to San Antonio to face A&M International and St. Mary’s.

Eastern New Mexico - Last Thursday UTPB defeated the Zia’s 3-1 in Odessa. UTPB scored in the 11th minute, ENM equalized in the 72nd, only to have UTPB add goals in the 78th and 83rd minutes. A Saturday game in Portales had the Zia’s holding the upper hand over Howard Payne 4-1.

This Friday has ENM traveling to Wayland Baptist for a match.

Northeastern Oklahoma - Defeated in-state rivals Northwestern 4-1. The Riverhawks outshot Northwestern 37-5 while scoring two goals in each half. Tuesday evening Northeastern traveled to Arkansas to face GSC’s Harding University Bisons. The game was moved to Harding’s turf football stadium due to the rain, and Harding responded by winning their first game of the season, 2-1. Friday the Riverhawks take on another GSC foe in Memphis, facing Christian Brothers.

Southwestern Oklahoma - Mid America Christian absorbed a 2-1 loss versus the Bulldogs. Elyse Berta scored in the 1st minute, and assisted Josie Price in the 15th. MACU scored in the 32nd, and a defensive battle ensued. Northwestern Oklahoma was victimized by the Bulldogs 4-0 on Sunday as Korey Hearn scored a hat trick. Tuesday Southern Nazarene of the SAC defeated SWOSU 2-1.

This Friday Oklahoma City University is the final contest before conference play begins Sept 29th for the Bulldogs.
