With seven starters and several others players who got extensive playing time returning, the defense figured to be ahead of the offense during the first few days of the Midwestern State Mustangs’ preseason workouts.

But the defense took things to extreme during Thursday’s afternoon practice session.
The secondary intercepted several passes, as well as picking up a couple of loose balls off the ground.

“The defense did a good job of taking away the football,” head coach Bill Maskill said. “And the offense didn’t do a very good job of protecting it. We have to learn to do that. That’s one thing they didn’t do a lot of last year as an offense — turn it over.”
