UCO Scrimmage

EDMOND (Aug. 11) -- Both sides of the ball had their moments as Central Oklahoma held its first major intraquad scrimmage of the preseason Monday night under the lights at Wantland Stadium.

Former UCO great Keith Traylor, who played on three Super Bowl championship teams during a 17-year NFL career before retiring after the 2007 season, attended the practice and met with the team briefly before the hour and a half workout.

A light rain fell throughout most of the practice, with the Bronchos spending extensive time on special teams before the 74-play scrimmage in their first full-pad session of the preseason.

Six quarterbacks saw action, combining to complete 27-of-49 passes for nearly 200 yards, while the UCO defense came up with three interceptions and a trio of forced fumbles.

"Obviously we've got a long ways to go, but it wasn't bad for our first time in pads," first-year head coach Tracy Holland said. "We did some good things both offensively and defensively, but we also made a bunch of mistakes on both sides and those are things we have to correct."

The Bronchos continue their preseason schedule with two practices Tuesday and will hold their final major scrimmage Saturday at 6 p.m.

UCO opens the season Aug. 30, hosting perennial NCAA Division II power Pittsburg State at 6 p.m.
