The much anticipated 2008 Tarleton State preseason football camp began Friday, and new coordinators Cary Fowler and Jason Munoz couldn’t be happier with the way things have unfolded so far.

“We’ve had to slow down a little bit because we have so many new players defensively,” said Fowler, who is in his first year with Tarleton after leading the top scoring defense in the Lone Star Conference at Midwestern State last season. “But most of these guys have been around the college game for two or three years now, so we’ll be able to start picking up the pace the next couple of days.”

Many of the new faces Fowler referred to are junior college and NCAA Division I transfers who arrived on the Tarleton campus only recently. “We’ve got our base defense and primary coverage in,” Fowler said. “Now we’ll start adding things around that.

“One thing about it,” Fowler continued, “is we can run.”Two players in particular have impressed the new defensive coordinator.
