Goodbye, summer vacation. As if lifting weights, running sprints and taking classes could be called a vacation.

West Texas A&M opens preseason workouts today, with varsity players taking the field at 3 p.m.

Approximately 135 players, including returnees, newcomers and preferred walksons, reported to campus Tuesday. Another 60 players, many who live far outside the Panhandle, are expected on campus closer to the start of fall classes Aug. 25.

WT will attempt to defend the Lone Star Conference championship it has won the past three seasons. The Buffs, who are 33-5 over that stretch, are picked second this year behind Abilene Christian University, the 2007 runnerup.
